Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates applying for the Ph.D. program in Neuroscience at NBRC must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Qualification:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in Science disciplines such as Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications, Pharmacy, Veterinary Science, or an M.Sc. in Psychology from a recognized institute/university.
- Candidates with a four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Technology, or Medicine from a recognized institute/university are also eligible.
- Final-year students appearing for the qualifying examination can apply.
- Minimum Marks Requirement:
- At least 60% marks or an equivalent grade in higher secondary (10+2).
- At least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
- A 5% relaxation in Bachelor’s and Master’s aggregate scores is applicable for reserved categories (SC/ST/PH).
- Note: Rounding off percentage scores to the next integer is not permitted.

Entrance Exam Requirements
Ph.D. (Neuroscience)
Candidates must qualify through any of the following entrance exams:
- Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) – December 2024
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2023 / GATE-2024) in:
- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
- Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communications Engineering
- Computer Science & Information Technology, Instrumentation Engineering
- Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology
- Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Sciences
- Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) 2024 (for Physics)
- CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR JRF (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) – Valid fellowship should be activatable on or after August 31, 2025
- UGC-NET JRF qualified on or after December 2023
Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews at NBRC based on their entrance exam performance.
M.Sc. (Neuroscience)
- Admission is based on JGEEBILS (December 2024) performance.

Fellowships:
All the students admitted to M.Sc Program are provided a fellowship ofRs. 5,000/-per month. All admitted candidates of Ph.D Program, receive aJuniorResearch Fellowship (JRF) of Rs. 37,000/- per month for the first two years. After twoyears, they will be eligible for a Senior Research Fellowship (SRE) of Rs. 42,000/- permonth up to 3 years. Awardees of fellowship from CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT and DST mayavail them as per the rules of respective funding agencies. The total tenure of JRF andSRE cannot exceed 5 years.
