HNBGU Ph.D. Admission 2024-25: Apply Online, Check Eligibility, Exam Dates & More

Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU), a Central University located in Srinagar, Garhwal (Uttarakhand), invites online applications for admission to the Ph.D. Programme for the academic session 2024-25. Candidates can apply for various subjects offered under different schools of the university. Detailed information regarding the availability of seats, eligibility criteria, and the Ph.D. Entrance Examination is available on the university website. The online application process will start from 23 April 2025, and the last date for submission is 2 May 2025. Admit cards can be downloaded from 8 May 2025, and the entrance examination is scheduled for 18 May 2025 (Sunday). All updates and notifications will be published on the official university website only.

Eligibility Criteria :

Applicants must have completed a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade. A relaxation of 5% is applicable for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), EWS, and Differently-Abled categories. Only candidates who have completed their qualifying degree by the academic session 2023–24 are eligible to apply.

Application Process :

All applications must be submitted online through the Samarth portal. Even candidates who are exempted from the entrance examination (such as NET/JRF qualified) are required to fill the online form and pay the prescribed application fee.

Entrance Examination Details :

The entrance test will carry a total of 100 marks and will be of two hours duration. It will include two sections:

Section I: Research Methodology (50 marks)

Section II: Subject-specific questions based on the postgraduate syllabus (50 marks)

The test will consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions. There will be no negative marking.

Qualifying Marks

To qualify the entrance exam, candidates must score at least 50% marks. For candidates belonging to reserved categories, the minimum qualifying mark is 45%.

Interview and Selection Criteria :

All eligible and exempted candidates will be called for an interview, where they will be assessed on their research aptitude, interest area, and the feasibility of conducting research at the university.

The final merit will be calculated as follows:

For exempted candidates (like JRF/INSPIRE): 70% weightage from academic record, 30% from interview

For NET qualified: 70% from NET score, 30% from interview

For entrance test candidates: 70% from entrance marks, 30% from interview

Important Note

A candidate can apply for only one Ph.D. programme.

The application fee is ₹700 for General, EWS, and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, and ₹350 for SC, ST, and Differently-Abled candidates.
